Effective from the 13th May 2010 there are changes to the classes we are allowed to cart on the ships that cross Cook Strait.

Fuel Adjustment Factor (FAF)
As we live in a time where fuel prices can move up and down in large increments, in a short amount of time, there is the need to be able to adjust rates to reflect these movements in fuel prices.
As per the below equation, Freight Lines Ltd implements a “Global Fuel Adjustment Factor” – as is communicated to customers upon the agreement of set rates, or acceptance of one –off quotes.
Global FAF is calculated each month.
December 2011 FAF: 12.17%
January 2012 FAF: 11.30%
February 2012 FAF: 10.65%

X = current fuel rate (or average for month)
Y = fuel rate at last review
- (x-y)/y multiplied by 100 = % increase in fuel since last fuel increase
- % increase in fuel calculated above multiplied by fuel as a % of the total costs = % increase in rate required to cover increase in fuel costs
